While the St. Lucia of Oulu visits the hospitals and
elderly homes with her choir, the rest of the high school students have so
called theme days with different kinds of programs.
This year we had climate awareness and
nature activities as the theme.
On Thursday the 12th we started the school
day by hopping on a bus and drove to the refuse
dump and recycling center of Oulu. We had a guided bus tour at the center, and we
learned a lot, for example, at the center the domestic rubbish is used to make fuel and to district heating to warm the houses and water. Rest of the trash is recycled in detail.
We also learned that there are many animal species that live in the area, like deers, foxes, eagles and other birds.
After the
bus tour we went to the woods. We walked to the fire place through the forest which
unfortunately was quite wet and icy because of the rain last evening. Anyway we
had a lot of fun balancing on the duckboards and grilling the sausages and marsmallows at the
bonfire.
